Alexander Prentice of Blandford (Brantford?), Ontario, Canada
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2000 and Revised: 24 Jun 2008

We are helping Sue Studabaker in tracing her Prentice roots. From her email of 14 Feb 2000, here is what we have so far:

1. Alexander Prentice was likely b c. 1800-1830, Canada (location per 1880 census for dau., Lucy). He does not appear in the 1852 Ontario, Canada, census. He later lived in Kent Co., MI with his wife and family.

He m. Elizabeth, b. Canada (location per 1880 census for dau., Lucy). Alexander and Elizabeth had at least one child, a daughter:

  1. Lucy Prentice, 14 Jan 1848 in "Blandford," Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada. . . . . . . . [2]

2. Lucy Prentice, 14 Jan 1848 in "Blandford," Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada. She does not appear in the 1852 Ontario census. We did not find a "Blandford" on our map, but we did find a "Brantford" in Ontario lying about 50 miles west of Niagara Falls, NY.

Lucy m. James Madison Moore, also known as Madison Moore on 25 Jan 1870 . He was b. 10 Nov 1848 in Oakfield Township, Kent Co, MI, son of Hiram Moore and Mariah Slawson. Known children were:

  1. Orville A. Moore, b. 1871.
  2. Florence G. Moore, b. 1872.
  3. Arthur C. Moore, b. 1873.
  4. Estella S. Moore, b. 1874.
  5. Blanche Moore, b. 1878.
  6. Clarence Moore, b. 1880.

Lucy and James Moore and their family appear in the 1880 Oakfield Township, Kent Co., MI census and his biography in Chapman's 1881 History of Kent County.
