We are helping Ian Prentice in his efforts to locate descendants of the the following family. With his help, and the help of Judith Dickson, here is what we have so far:

1. Charles Prentice may have been b. c. 1780-1800, perhaps in, or near Southwold, Suffolk, England (per IGI and Queensland, Australia, BMD records provided by Judith Dickson's email of 4 Sep 2006).

He m. Emily (per IGI). They had 2 or more children, including (per IGI):

  1. Charles Brightley Prentice was b. 5 Jan 1821. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
  2. Emily Prentice, b. 29 May 1822 and chr. 20 Feb 1823, Independent, Southwold, Suffolk, England

2. Charles Brightley Prentice was b. 5 Jan 1821 and chr. 21 May 1821, Independent, Southwold, Suffolk, England. (per IGI), and d. 19 Apr 1894, Queensland, Australia. He was a botanist writer and surgeon. By email of 26 Jan 2008, Judith Dickson advises that there are two references to Dr Charles Prentice as a person called before Queensland Government Committees (1860-1901):

  1. Prentice, Charles, Acting Surgeon Superintendent at Woogaroo Asylum, Management of the Woogaroo Lunatic Asylum and the Lunatic Reception Houses of the Colony, 1877/v.1, 1157-1162.
  2. Prentice, Charles, Quarantine of the ship Gauntlet, 11876/v.2 1125.

  1. (probably) Charles William Prentice, b. c. 1863. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [3]

Charles m. 2nd Elizabeth/Eliza/Lisa Maria Dunn about 1867. She was b. c. 1838 and d. 29 Sep 1919 (per Judith Dickson's email of 4 Sep 2006). She was the dau. of Robert Dunn. Charles and his wife emigrated to Australia and settled in Queensland, Australia. They may be the Charles and Eliza who arrived in Queensland on the "Golden City" on 3 Jan 1865 (IMM/113 48 M1696) Charles age given as 39, Eliza as 27 and a child Charles of 2 years. After Charles' death in 1894 in Queensland, Elizabeth might have remarried or possibily emigrated, possibly to Ireland. Charles and Elizabeth had the following children:

  1. Lisette Prentice, born 12 Dec 1868, Queensland, Australia and d. 4 mos. later on 16 Apr 1869
  2. Eliza Augusta Prentice, born 29 April 1871, Queensland, Australia and d. 1873.
  3. Frances Anne Prentice, born 26 April 1874, Queensland, Australia, and d. 8 Dec 1851 at the age of 71 years. She is bur. Dutton Park Cemetery. She m. John lambert Shattock on 10 Jun 1903 (Ref: /B002600). Daughter per Judith Dickson, email, 26 Jan 2008):
    1. Alma Adeline Shattock, b. 10 Ar 1904 (Ref: /001703MB).
  4. Hershel Prentice (misspelled as Heaschell in records) was b. 9 Nov 1875, Queensland, Australia, and d. at the age of 73 on 18 Feb 1949, Queensland. (Ref: 1875/B020113 and 1949/B020785.) Bur. South Brisbane Cemetery.

3. (probably) Charles William Prentice, b. c. 1863 (see above) and d. 17 Aug 1948, age 86 years (ref: B018327). Interred at Mt. Thompson Crematorium, Brisbane, per Judith Dickson, email, 26 Jan 2008.

He m. Elizabeth Shirlow on 25 Jan 1887 (ref: B011213) in Queensland. She was b. c. 1865 and d. 30 Jun 1957 at the age of 92 years. Interred with her husband at Mt. Thompson Crematorium, Brisbane. In the 1922 C’wealth Electoral rolls, Charles William Prentice and his wife Elizabeth are living in West St, Toowoomba. His occupation is given as Public Servant. Children:

  1. (probably) Charles William Prentice, b. c. 1863. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
  2. Charles Trevor Prentice born 10 Feb 1893, 1893 (ref: B052209). On the 1922 C’wealth Electoral Roll Charles Trevor Prentice is living at Mrs Turton’s, Lancaster Rd, Ascot, Brisbane. His occupation was given as clerk. He married Gwendoline Jane Corten on 12 Dec 1923 1923 (ref: B033589).
  3. John Prentice born 12 Apr 1907 (ref: B014334) and died 3 days later on 15 Apr 1907, (ref: B007944), buried South Brisbane Cemetery in 1907.
