Update of 25 Jan 2006: Bert W. Prentice is a descendant of John-3 Prentice, #238.2. That now replaces this article.
1. Burton "Bert" W. Prentice was b. c. 1876, PA. He moved to NY by about 1900 where he married Gussie M. (surname unknown). According to the 1920 Cancadea/Caneadea, Allegany Co., NY census he had the following children:
- Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1903, NY. At home in 1920.
- Frank V. Prentice, b. c. 1905 NY At home in 1920. He might be the Frank V. Prentice shown in the SSDI who obtained his SS# in NY and d. 10 Feb 1989 at an unspecified location.
- Carl B. Prentice, b. c 1907, NY. He is a Boarder in the 1930 census in Clarkson, Monroe Co., NY. It is unclear whether he is in the SSDI.
- Bertha E. Prentice b, c. 1909, NY. At home in 1920.
- Deforest J. Prentice, b. c. 1913, NY. At home in 1920. Not in 1930 census. He is probably the Deforest J. Prentice shown in the SSDI as b. 31 Jan 1912, who obtained his SS# in CA, and d. 4 Jan 1992 in Cottonwood, Shasta Co., CA.
- Wilbert R. Prentice, b. c. 1915, NY. . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
- Lloyd Prentice, b. c. 1919, NY. He appears in the 1930 census in Hume, Allegany Co., NY as a great-grandson in the home of Nancy Lockwood, age 90 and b. c. 1840, NY. None of the women in the household are young enough to be Lloyd's mother. Not in the SSDI in 2005.
2. Wilbert R. Prentice, b. 2 Aug 1913 in Freedom, NY, and d. 16 Mar 1985 in either Phoenix or Glendale, Maricopa Co., AZ (per SSDI). He served as a T5 in the US Army in WW II ( see Fn. 1). Bur. at Sec. 17, Site 3066, National Mem. Cem. of AZ, next to his wife.
He m. Elizabeth Alice Phillips, b. 19 Jul 1920 in Rochester, NY, and d. 27 Apr 1992; bur. at Sec. 17, Site 3066, National Mem. Cem. of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ..Children:
- Betty Lou Prentice. She m. George H. Wilkinson; div. 1983.
- Kathleen Elizabeth Prentice. Died 2009. She m. Chuck Queen and had (1) a daughter who m. 1st Mr. Vega and 2nd Mr. Galarza had a son, and (2) a daughter who m. Mr. Murphy and had son.
- Wilbur R. Prentice. Died 2007. He m. Nancy Cater.
