William Prentis (Prentice, Prentiss) seems not to appear in the 1850 or 1860 census in Erie Co., NY, although his apparent son, George S. Prentice, continues to reside there.

He m. Permelia, b. c. 1805, VT. She is the female shown above, age 30-39 and b. 1801-1810. As of 1940 they had 6 children ranging in ages from under 5 to about 10-14. She is living with the family of her son, Lewis in the 1870 census in Brant. Although not yet confirmed, they may be:

  1. Maybe Permelia Prentice, b. c. 1825 VT. In 1860 Brant census living with Lewis and George.
  2. Maybe Lewis Prentice, b. 12 Apr 1827, NY, and d. 3 Apr 1876, Brant, Erie Co., NY. In 1860 Brant census living with Permelia and George. He m. Phebe who was b. c. 1826, NY and d. 11 Mar 1892, Brant. By email of 5 Dec 2012 Sally Shreeve says that the 1875 NY census shows that Lewis m. Edith Holliday, b. 1825, Evans, NY, She was the dau. of Tobias Holliday (1789-1875) and Asenath Cummins (1804-1843).
Note: Dave Rote's email of 5 Dec 2012 suggests that "Phebe" might be a misunderstanding of "Edie" which may be a nickname for "Edith." If so, there was only 1 marriage by Lewis Prentice and that was to Edith Holliday.
