Introduction: Jane Isabella Prentis is #37.1 in our Jonathan-3 eBook. We are seeking information about her husband and descendants. This is what we have so far.

37.1 Jane Isabella Prentis, b. 1809, Wood Co., WV (per Joan Stricker, above). 1850 census in Eastern District, Marion Co., VA. 1860 census in Dist. 1, Marion Co., VA. She appears with her family in the 1880 census in Boothsville, Marion Co., WV.

She married Rev. Thomas Martin a Presbyterian minister, in 1838. He was b. 15 Dec 1804, Rathfriland, Co. Down, Ireland, and d. 18 Apr 1872, Petersburg, IN per Ancestry.com . The following is from "The History of the First Presbyterian Church of Morgantown, W.Va. "From Strength to Strength" has a chapter on the different ministers of the church. The following is taken verbatim. "Rev. Thomas Martin, also a licentiate of New Brunswick Presbytery was born at Rathfriland, County Down, Ireland, on December 16, 1804. He graduated from Belfst College and in 1832 frmom Princeton Theological Seminary. He ws ordained by the Redstone Presbytery on January 4, 1834. In 1833 he became Principal of Monongalia Academy and served as stated supply of this (ie. First Presbyterian Church of Morgantown) church for about three years. After leaving Morgantown he served from 1834 to 1851 at Brownsville, Pennsylvania. Having married Jane Isabella, only child of Honorable Jonathan Prentis, a distingushed citizen of Morgantown, he retired to live in Morgantown in 1852, and stayed until 1856 when he moved to Indiana. There he was pastor of the church at Petersburg until his death on April 18, 1872."

  7. Jane N. Martin, b. c. 1847, WV. At home in 1860. At home in Boothsville, WV, in 1880.
  8. James G. Martin, , b. 1850, VA. At home in 1850. Not home in 1860. Mentioned on the presentation page of the family Bible.
  9. Thomas G. Martin, b. c. 1851, WV. At home in 1860. Living with wife at his parents' home in Boothsville, WV, in 1880. He m. Virginia A., b. c. 1851, WV, as were her parents. Son per 1880 census:
    1. Thomas C. Martin, b. c. 1879, WV.
  10. George N. Martin, b. c. 1854, WV. At home in 1860. At home in Boothsville, WV, in 1880.
  11. (perhaps) Lida Martin who gave the Bible to Edward Prentis in 1904 when she was living in Petersburg, Pike Co., IN.
