1. Henry Maunsell Prentice was b. 10 Aug 1907 in Alresford, England, and d. 1995 in Crawley, England (per St. Catherine Index). At the time of his marriage in 1940, he was a Capt. in The Scinde Horse.

He m. Constance Augusta Hone on 12 Oct 1940 at St. Mary of Bethany, Quetta, India per India Office Family History Search .

The record also identifies the Presidency in which the marriage took place as Bengal. British India was divided into three Presidencies:

  1. Bombay, which covered the west and north of the country, including what is now Pakistan;
  2. Bengal, which covered the east of the country and included Burma and what is now Bangladesh, and
  3. Madras, which covered the southern portion of India.

The main cities of the Presidencies were Bombay, Calcutta and Madras, respectively.

Who are Henry Maunsell Prentice's Parents?

The India marriage record appears to indicate that his father is "Reginald Wickham." He may be the Reginald Wickham Prentice, son of Henry Prentice and Fanny C. Lloyd, who appears in our Fall 1999 article about the Prentices of the Colnes, England .
