Update of 27 Dec 2005: The 1851 census in Werrington confirms that William Prentice is the son of William and Hannah Prentice. They appear in our Summer 2000 article about Thomas Prentice of Kings Cliffe .
1. William Prentice was b. c. 1826. It is not clear where he was born. One source says he was b. in Werrington, Northampton, England, while the 1861 census says he was b. in Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire. He appears in the 1861 (spelled Prentes), 1871 and 1881 census at Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire, England, with his wife and family.
He m. Elizabeth, b. c. 1836, Baston, Lincoln, and children:
- Elizabeth/Betsy A. Prentice, b. c. 1853 Werrington. At home in 1861 and spelled Prentes.
- Sarah J. Prentice, b. c. 1856, Werrington. At home in 1861 and spelled Prentes.
- John W. Prentice, b. c. 1859, Werrington. . . . . . . . [2]
- Mary A. Prentice, b. c. 1862, Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire. At home ion 1871. Not home in 1881.

2. John William Prentice, b. c. 1858, Werrington. He appears in the 1861 census in Werrington (spelled Prentes), in the 1871 census in Deeping St. James, in the 1891 and 1901 census in Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire, with his wife, Jane Elizabeth, , b. c. 1859, Deeping St. James, and children:
- Frederick John Prentice, b. c. 1886, Deeping St. James
- John William Prentice, b. c. 1889, Deeping St. James.
- Bertie Prentice, son, b. c. 1892, Deeping St. James
3. William/Willie Prentice, b. c. 1870, Deeping, Lincolnshire. At home in 1871. He appears in the 1901 census in Deeping St. James with his wife and family:

It seem likely that William Prentice might be a son of William Prentice, chr. 12 Dec 1798, Kings Cliffe, Northampton who was living in Werrington by 1835. He appears in our Summer 2000 article about Thomas Prentice of Kings Cliffe .
