He m. Sarah, b. c. 1823, Aldham, Suffolk. She is probably the Sarah Prentice who d. 29 Jan 1897 in Aldham at the age of 72 (per Prentice Nat. Burial Index in our Summer 2003 issue).

He may be the James Prentice shown in the 1881 and 1891 census as b. c. 1847, Elmsett, with his wife, Eliza, b. c. 1845, Bradfield, Essex. The microfilm copy of the 1861 Aldham census is difficult to read, but although indexed as "Amy Prentice," male, it is likely Levi who appears in the 1861 census in Aldham with his wife, Mary, b. c. 1818, Wattisham, Suffolk, and children:

  1. Mary Ann Prentice, b. c. 1848, Elmsett, Suffolk. At home in Aldham in the 1861 census. Not home in 1871.
  2. Emily Prentice, b. c. 1853, Aldham, Suffolk. At home in Aldham in the 1861 and 1871 census. Not home in 1881.

He m. (2nd?) Elizabeth Grimwood, b. c. 1834, Ringshall, Suffolk, dau. of John Grimwood, b. c. 1801, Ringshall, Suffolk. No children are shown and, if any, would have left home by 1881.

He appears in the 1881 census living on Hadleigh Rd., Aldham, Suffolk, England, as an Ag Lab, with his (2nd?) wife and family. Also living with them is Elizabeth's father, John Grimwood. They later appear in the 1891 census in Polstead, Suffolk. Not in 1901 census.

5. David Prentice, b. c. 1859, Elmsett. At home in 1861 and 1871 in Elmsett. He appears in the 1881 census in Aldham with his wife; no children shown. Shown in 1891 Aldham census as a widower with no children.

Who are Henry Prentice's Parents?

Although further investigation is needed for confirmation, Henry may be the Henry Prentice who was chr. 9 Aug 1775 at Aldham, Suffolk, England, son of Henry Prentice and Susan Walker who were m. 16 Aug 1775 at Aldham (per IGI). Aldham lies less than a mile SSW of Elmsett. No other children for Henry and Susan appear in the IGI. Henry d. 27 Jan 1844 at the age of 69 in Aldham (per Prentice Nat. Burial Index in our Summer 2003 issue).
