"Margaret Prentice Brown was my mother's great-great grandmother. The Brown family still lives in Braehead. I took vacation in Edinburgh this summer and with some directions from my mother, managed to find the village and after being directed to a house where a woman named Brown lives (not related) she directed me to another house, which turns out to be the home of my second cousin. One thing led to another and the family has since sent me school pictures of my mother. They had had the family back to William Brown, a hand-loom weaver in the 1850s, but that was all. When I came home, I ...finally found the marriage record. It's a bit like a puzzle, but the death record for my great-great grandfather listed Margaret Prentice Brown as his mother, the wife of William Brown, hand-loom weaver. I'm still poking around and online records go back to 1554, so lots of stuff to explore. ...
