      Sir John Henslow (9 October 1730-22 September 1815) was Surveyor to the Navy (Royal Navy) between 1774 and 1806 in the lead up to the Napoleonic Wars and therefore responsible for naval ship design. His son John Prentis Henslow, solicitor, was father of John Stevens Henslow. He was also the grandfather of Francis Hartwell Henslowe, who was the son of Edward Prentis Henslow.

6. Edward Prentis, b. 11 May 1797 in Monmouth; d. 1854. Edward became a well-known artist. He had land in Aylesford, Kent and in 1849 lived at 11 Upper Phillimore Place, Kensington. He also lived in Worcester for a time. In his first Royal Academy exhibition were two surviving paintings 'A Girl with Matches' and 'A Boy with Oranges' setting a trend for sentimental paintings: these two are reputed to be in a gallery in Glasgow. 7. Stephen Prentis, chr. 16 Sep 1800 Earl St.-Presbyterian, Maidstone, Kent. Became a noted Poet living on his inheritance from his father, who must have been very wealthy; educated at Rochester School, Greenwich then Cambridge University. He lived most of his life in northern France, published 20 volumns of verse, and died in Dinan, near the north coast of France on 12 Jun 1862.

He m. Catherine Knevett in 1827; she d. in Dinan in 1841. They had two children:

  1. Henry Prentis, b. in Little Sandlin, Kent and died before 1862 in Dinan.
  2. Mary Katherine Prentis. She m. Rev. Richard A. Julian in 1854. They do not appear in the 1861 and later census.

8. George Prentis, b. 1800 Maidstone and d. March 1833. A Wine Merchant of Maidstone.

8.1 William Taylor Prentis, b. 1832; lived at Severnoaks, Igtham in 1865; then at 4, Rocky Hill TErrace, Maidstone in 1882; d. Jun 1890 Maidstone. He was a Justice of the Peace, lived at The Warren, Igtham and was a Wine Merchant of Maidstone. Went to school at Rugby, was a Captain in the Royal Scots Guards; fought in the Crimean War in 1854-6.

He m. Agnes Mary J. Morphew in 1868; she d. 10 Dec 1938 in Maidstone. Children:
