1. Lewis Prentice was b. c. 1804. NY. He appears with his wife in the 1850 census for Jamestown, Grant Co., WI. Not in 1860 census. He is likely the same person as Louis Prentiss who appears as a carpenter and widower in the 1870 and 1880 census in Reads Landing, Wabasha Co., MN, and with both parents shown as b. in CT.

He m. Catherine c. 26 Nov 1843 (per MI Marriages). She b. c. 1803, NC.

Lewis Prentis may be the same Lewis Prentiss who appears on pg. 305 of the 1830 census in Orleans, Jefferson Co., NY. The may also be the parents of the following persons shown in WI Marriages:

  • Edward W. Prentiss who m. Mattie A. Curtis on 9 Sep 1861 in Grant Co., WI
  • George M. Prentiss who m. Ellen Talldie on 15 Aug 1868 in Grant Co., WI

Also appearing on pg. 33 of the 1830 Orleans, Jefferson County census is William Prentiss, likely Lewis' father, brother or son. Also appearing in the 1830 Jefferson County census, but perhaps not related to Lewis and William, are :

  • John Prentice, Champion, pg. 146. He is 29/32a in our Prentice book.
  • Kibbey R. Prentice, Champion, pg. 146. He is probably Peter Kibbe Prentice, son of John, above; Peter's mother was Olive Kibbe.

  • Lorenzo Prentice, Watertown, pg. 66. He is also a son of John and Olive, above.
