1. Mrs. Jeanette (Halladay) Prentice was b. c. 1852 in NY. She was the dau. of William Halladay (b. c. 1822, NY) and his wife, Margaret (b. c. 1826, Scotland). Her sisters were:

  • Margaret Halladay, b. Dec 1844, NY.
  • Emma B. Halladay, b. Jul 1849, NY.
  • Louise S. Halladay, b. May 1860, NY.

She m. Mr. Prentice, probably before 1880. and in NY, as she does not appear in the 1880 census with her family. She initially appears in the 1900 census in Manhattan, New York Co., NY, with her sisters as divorced (probably sometime after the 1887 birth of her son, William, and 1900). She then appears as Jenette Prentice, b. c. 1855, NY, in the 1915 census in New York, NY, with her 2 sons. In 1920 census in Manhattan, NY, as . Janet Prentice, widow, wit her sonb, William. She later appears in the 1940 census in Rye, Westchester Co., New York.

Sons of Mr. Prentice and Jeanette:

  1. Frederick D. Prentice, b. c. 1882, NY. 1900 at home. 1915 State Census at home as Fredrick D. Prentice. 1925 State Census and 1930 and 1940 census in Rye, Westchester Co., NY, with his wife, May, b. c. 1887, and daughter:
    1. Geraldine V/ Prentice, b. c. 1920. 1925, 1930 and 1940 at home in Rye.
  2. William S. Prentice, b. c. 1887, NY. 1900 and 1915 at home. 1920 census in Manhattan, NY, living with his mother. Not in NYC in 1930 and 1940 census.

Who is Mr. Prentice?

Jeanette apparently m. after 1880 and divorced before 1900, so we have so far been unable to identify her husband.
