1. Martin Prentice may have been b. c. 1800-1806, and perhaps in or near Magheralin, Co. Down, Ireland, where he married in 1826. He was living in Ireland at least until 1839 at the birth of his son, James. He may, or may not, have joined his son in Scotland. It has been suggested that he might have been a Gamekeeper, but that has not yet been confirmed.

He m. Ann McKeowan (Margaret McKorran?) in Magheralin, Co. Down, Ireland, in 1826 per Ancestry.com . They had 1 or more children, including:

  1. Elizabeth Prentice.
  2. Anne Prentice, b. 12 May 1835, Ireland, and d. 1930. She m. John Jamison. He was b. ???? and d. Sep 1897. Children per Ancestry.com :

2. James Prentice, b. c. 1839, Ireland, and d. 1905, Blackridge, Scotland. He is identified in Ancestry.com as the son of Martin Prentice and Ann McKeown with no further information.

He m. Ann Hastie on 10 Feb 1860, Bo'Ness. She was b. c. 1841, Newarthill, Bothwell, and d. 1900, Blackridge, Scotland. They apparently lived in Bo'Ness at least until 1864 when their daughter, Anne, was born. Then, sometime between 1864 and 1872 they moved to Bathgate. Children, none apparently appearing in the 1881 census (per IGI and 1881 census):
