2. Mark Prentice was b. 2 Dec 1821 in Weldon, Northampton, England, and d. Oct 1907 in England. He appears in the 1871 census in Little Weldon at 66 Water Lane, and in the 1881 and 1891 Great Weldon census with his wife and children.

He m. Sarah Heeps. She was b. 28 Jun 1924, Old on Wold, Northamptonshire, and d. Jul 1899, Northamptonshire. She was the dau. of John and Mary Heeps. Children:

4. Mark Prentice, b. c. 1863, Great Weldon. He appears in the 1891 census in Little Weldon, Northampton, and in the 1901 census in Great Weldon with his wife, Ada, b. c. 1871, Rockingham, and son:

  1. George H. Prentice, b. c. 1891, Weldon. Not named in the 1901 census.
  2. John Prentice, b. c. 1892, Weldon. 1901 at home.
  3. Bertie Prentice,son, b. c. 1891, Weldon. 1901 at home.
  4. Mabel Prentice,b. c. 1898,Weldon. 1901 at home.

5. James Prentice, b. c. 1865, Great Weldon. He an Agricultural Labourer and was living with Mark and his family in the 1881 census and was called Mark's "grandson". He appears in the 1901 Little Weldon, Northampton, census with his wife, Sarah, and sons:

  1. James Samuel Prentice, b. c. 1894. He enlisted in the army in August 1914 and d. in WW I on 25 Nov 1918 as a Private in the Tank Corps. Those war records also identify him as the son of James and Sarah Ann Prentice, of Great Weldon. He is buried in the Great Weldon (St. Mary) churchyard.
  2. Horace Prentice, b. c. 1900, Little Weldon.

Who are John Prentice's Parents?

We have not yet determined the identity of his parents, but Mark Prentice, #2, might be a brother to David Prentice of Weldon discussed in our Summer 2005 issue.
