1. John J. Prentice was b. c. 1850 in London. He appears in the 1881 census in Coventry, Warwick, England, as a Machinist Clerk with his wife, Sarah, b. c. 1847, Coventry. They later appear in the 1901 census in District 5, Romford, Essex. Children (per 1881 and 1901 census):
- James John Prentice, b. c. 1875, Coventry. At home in Romford in the 1901 census.
- Mary J. Prentice, b. c. 1877, Coventry. Not home in the 1901 census.
- Thomas L. Prentice, b. c. 1878, Coventry. He appears in the 1901 census in Coventry as a boarder. No wife or children are shown.
- George S. Prentice, b. c. 1880, Coventry. Not home in the 1901 census and not shown in 1901 census.
- Florence Prentice, b. c.1882, Coventry. At home in 1901.
- Rose Prentice, b. c. 1884, Coventry. At home in 1901.
- Lilly Prentice, b. c. 1886, Coventry. At home in 1901.
