1. James S. Prentice was b. c. 1890 in Ontario, Canada as were both of his parents. He may have been in government service of some type since 2 of his children were born in India in the 1920s. James and his family appear in the 1930 census in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH where he is identified as a College Professor. He does not appear in the SSDI.

He m. Margaret who also was b. in Ontario. Children (per 1930 census):

  1. Wilbert N. Prentice, 19 Nov 1923, India, obtained his SS# in OH, and d. 3 Aug 1995 in Granville, Licking Co., OH (per 1930 census and SSDI).
  2. Helen A. Prentice, b. c. 1926, India.

Who are James S. Prentice's Parents?

Since James was b. c. 1890, we checked the 1901 Canada census and found a James S. Prentice, age 11 and b. c. 1890 in the Riverside Sub District, Lisgar District of Manitoba. It shows the following household:

  • Prentice Alex, Head, b. Sep 16, 1858, (Ontario?) age 42.
  • Prentice Hellen, Wife b. Feb 29, 1860, (Ontario?) age 41
  • Prentice Lindsay B., b. Feb 27, 1883, age 18
  • Prentice Wilbert Alex, b. Jul 18, 1884, age 16. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice Earnest A., b. Nov 5, 1885, age 15. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice John A., b. Jul 20, 1886, age 14. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice James Stewart, b. Jul 1, 1889, age 11. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice Christina Anabella, b. Nov 22, 1893, age 7. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice Beatrice H., b. Feb 11, 1896, age 5. At home in Moosejaw in 1911.
  • Prentice George L, b. Jul 6, 1900, age 1. Not home in 1911 census.

The family later appears in the 1911 census in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan.

Investigation is continuing to determine if this is the correct family.
