1. John Prentice was b. Aug 1854 in Scotland. He appears in the 1880 Griswold, New London, CT census as "Works In Cotton Mill" with his wife, Elizabeth/Betsey, b. c. 1855, Scotland. They also later appear in the 1900 and 1920 Pawtucket, Providence Co., RI census. They emigrated to America in 1872 and became Naturalized citizens in 1880. Children (per 1880, 1900 and 1920 census):
- Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1875, Scotland. At home in 1880.
- Jane Prentice, b. c. 1878, CT. At home in 1880.
- Nelly/Nellie Prentice, b. Feb 1881, CT. At home in 1900.
- Elizabeth Prentice, b. Oct(?) 1882, CT. At home in 1880.
- Frank Prentice, b. Aug 1885, CT. . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
- Grace Prentice, b. Jan 1888, CT. At home in 1880
Also appearing in the householdin the 1920 census are the following granddaughters:
- Brunby(?) Prentice, b. c. 1899, RI.
- Helen B. Prentice, b. c. 1902, RI.
- Jennie M. Prentice, b. c. 1905, RI.
2. Frank Prentice, b. Aug 1885, CT. At home in 1880. Not in SSDI. He may be the Frank C. Prentice who appears in the 1930 census in Warwick, Kent Co., RI, with his wife, Mary, b. c. 1887, MA. No children are shown.
The name, John Prentice, is a quite common name in Scotland. The 1861 census shows about 10 men born in the requisite time frame. If any reader of this article can provide additional information, we will again revisit our database.
