George D. Prentiss of MA and Chicago, IL
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2003 and Revised 23 Oct 2004

Update of 10 Jun 2004: George D. Prentiss appears in the 1860 census in Lynn, Essex Co., MA as the son of Joseph Gallison Prentiss and his wife, Anne B. and a descendant of Henry Prentice .
1. George D. Prentiss was b. c. 1865 in MA, as were both of his parents. George first appears in the 1880 census in Onarga, Iroquois Co., IL census, apparently as a boarder in the home of Eliza J. Graves, b. c. 1830, MA, and her niece, Grace P. Graves, b.c. 1856, MA.

George later appears in the 1900 census in Morgan Park, Cook Co., IL and in the 1920 Chicago, Cook Co., IL census with his wife, Sarah L., b. c. 1868, OH. No children are shown in either 1900 or 1920 so it is unlikely that they had any children since by 1920 they were by then ages 52 and 55.

A search of the IGI does not disclose any birth information about George. A search of census records does not show any other Prentice or Prentiss family living in Iroquois Co., IL in the 1880 census.
