Edmund Prentice of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2004 and Revised 22 May 2008

Update of 22 May 2008: Edmund Prentice is #7 in our Spring 2001 article about The Prentice of Lowestoft and Harwich, Essex . That article now replaces this article.

1. Edmund Prentice was b. c. 1885 at Newcastle/Tyne, Northumberland, England. He is probably the same person as shown in St. Catherine's Index as b. in the March Quarter, 1885 at Newcastle Upon Tyne.

In 1923 his last residence was in Monkseaton, England. Ellis Island records show that he departed Liverpool on the "Regina" and arrived in New York on 27 Mar 1923. His declared intention was to see his brother in law, Mr. W. Herbert, 832 N. Main St., South Bend, IN. Edmund gave his occupation as "Accountant" and was described as 5' 6", dark complexion, brown hair and hazel eyes. Annie was then 5" 1", fair complexion, brown hair and gray eyes. He is not in the SSDI.

He was accompanied by his wife, Annie Medd, b. c. 1885, Saltburn-by-the-Sea. She identified her brother as Mr. A. Medd, Upleatham Rd., Saltburn/Sea,England. Accompanying them was their son:

  1. Neville Prentice, b. c. 1920, Banton(?), England.

All three later appear in the 1930 census in South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN.
