1. Arthur Prentice was b. 1871 in London, England. He does not appear in the IGI or 1881 census, but he does appear in the 1901 census in Hampstead Civil Parish, St. James Ecclesiastical Parish, London County, as a Bus Washer with his wife and family.
He m. Eliza, b. 1871, London. Children per 1901 census:
- Alexander Prentice, b. 1891, Kilburn, London.
- Minnie L. Prentice, b. 1892, Kilburn, London.
- Arthur Prentice, b. 1896, Kilburn, London.
- Annie Prentice, b. 1898, Kilburn, London.
- Frederick Prentice, b. 1900, Kilburn, London.
By email of 22 Oct 2006, John Taylor suggests the possibility that Arthur m. Eliza in 1894 and that Arthur's wife, Eliza, may be Eliza McIntyre, and that their children, Alexander and Minnie, above, may be Eliza's children perhaps by a prior marriage. He is in the process of obtaining records to prove, or disprove, that possibility.
In reviewing English Census Records, we do not find any Arthur Prentice in the 1871 census as born in London. However, we do find the following Arthur Prentices in the 1881 census as born in London between 1869 and 1873:
- Arthur Prentice, b. c. 1869, Lambeth, London, son of William H. Prentice, b. c. 1851, Hounslow, London, and his wife, Frances. For his roots, see our Fall 2005 article about Henry Prentice of Woking, Surrey .
- Arthur H. Prentice, b. c. 1873, Lambeth, London, son of Henry W. Prentice, b. c. 1843, Westminster, Middlesex, and his wife, Eliza. For his roots, see our Fall 2006 article about Henry Prentice of St. Martins in the Fields, Westminster, London .
