» A fellow who has taken our paper two years without ever paying a farthing for it, threatens to be our "patron" no longer. He has been just such a patron as a rat is to a corn-crib, a cat to a pot of cream, or a Democratic office-holder to the public treasury.

By G.D. Prentice, Editor of the Louisville Journal, 1860.

• I am searching for the ancestors of Thomas Prentice (b. 1821-1823) who married Christiana Morton BRASH (b. 20 December 1823, m. about 1852) in Scotland. She was the daughter of Alexander and Margaret RENNIE/ WENNER BRASH (m. 29 June 1821) . Thomas and Christiana, who was the widow of John French, emigrated to Australia in 1852 with at least two children by her first husband, but had several more during their marriage. Thomas and Christiana then went to California in about 1860. I have much information Thomas' family and descendants to present time that I will share.

His father was Alexender Renee Prentice, who came to Iowa from Glasgow about 1840. Alexander Renee had brothers who immegrated to Nova Scotia and Australia. Is there a Prentice tartan, or is the name in the cept of another clan??

• I'm looking for verification of the parentage of my great-grandfather Henry K. Prentice, born about 1840 maybe in Somers, CT. He married Sarah Marie Edmonds there. I have his Civil War record and death certificate and think he was the child of Russell W. Prentice and Martha J. Heath but lack proof of that and of the birthplace of Russell Prentice which, at one point, is listed as "Burlington, NY". Also need information about Martha J. Heath
