#5, FLorence Rosana Prentice is the daugher of Joseph Rollin Prentice and Margaret Jane Rooney.

Florence Rosana Prentice was born, 20 Aug 1876, in Sabetha, Nemaha, KS. Died, 29 Oct 1946, in Santa Ana, Orange, CA. Burial: Oct 1946, in Melrose Abby, Santa Ana, Orange, CA.

Florence's wedding picture shows a pretty, twenty-one year old woman, somewhat taller than average, with long dark hair. She bore cheerfully the demands of raising ten children, one of whom died as an infant. Her niece, Eleanor Seberger, described her as "always so kind to us, and so interested....(they had) dances at the DeWald farm southwest of Hebron both in 1926 and 1928...(his son) Ralph's wife, Ferne, would play the piano, and the children would dance. My cousins were such handsome men. Aunt Florence was an unusually large woman, afflicted with what Grandfather (Joseph) Prentice told my father was the Eyanson (Joseph's mother's maiden name) Curse: she could get fat on a diet of rainwater."

In the 1930's, when Florence was about 60, she broke her hip, causing her permanent confinement to a wheelchair. After moving to Santa Ana, CA where her brothers George and Ed lived, Florence was active in thelocal social group for the handicapped: the Indoor Sports. The families of her sons Linus and Harold later moved to Santa Ana. A corncob pipe smoker, she contracted throat cancer. She died in 1946 at the age 70.

In a pension document questionnaire, Florence's father stated that her name was "Rosana Florence" rather than "Florence Rosana" and that her birth date was 22 August rather than 20 August. Unquestionably, in her later years everyone called her "Florence".)

She married Adolph Joseph Dewald.
