Who are Peleg Prentice's Parents?

There are at least two possibilities for the identity of Peleg Prentice's parents:

  1. One possibility might be the Peleg Prentice who was b. 1773 in CT. We can probably eliminate him. He seems likely to be the Peleg Prentice who is shown in the 1820 NY census and who is said to have lived there at least until 1824.

  2. The more likely possibility is that he may be the Peleg Prentice who is #236/18a(iii) in our database and who was b. 1 Jun 1790 in Sutton, MA. He would be much too young to have the children of the older ages attributed to the Peleg shown in the 1820 NY census. Although we do not yet have independent evidence he moved to IN, his age is such that he would be consistent with the Peleg Prentice appears in the 1820 Wood Twp., Clark Co., IN census (per Pansy Girton) with 2 boys and a girl all born between 1810 and 1820.

This latter Peleg of Clark County is almost certainly the father of the Peleg, b. c. 1822, who is the subject of this article, especially since Pansy Girton reports that the 1822 Peleg's 2nd child, Elijah Andrew Prentice, was b. in Clark Co., IN on b. 25 Sep 1845.

However, there is always a possibility that there is a 3rd Peleg not yet known to us. Further confirming evidence is needed.
