Update of 23 Dec 2001: Earl Prentice is the son of Jacob Prentice and a descendant of Valentine Prentice.

Original Article: Earl Prentice, b. c. 1896 in ME, appears in the 1920 Worcester, Worcester Co., MA census with his wife, Mary LaForce, b. c. 1888, NH with the son:

  • Robert Prentice, b. c. 1920, MA. His obituary in the 25 Oct 1991 Telegram & Gazette, Worcester, MA provides the following information:

      Obituary: DOUGLAS - Robert J. Prentiss, 71 (b. c. 1920), of 70 West St., formerly of Cambridge Street, Worcester, died yesterday in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital. His wife, Beatrice R. (Bonin) Prentiss, died in 1977. He leaves two sons, Paul E. Prentiss of Spencer and Brian R. Prentiss of Pittsfield; a daughter, Corrine Y. (Prentice) Brooks of Douglas, with whom he made his home; a brother, Earl Prentiss of Worcester; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, a son of Earl and Mary (Laforce) Prentiss, and lived in Douglas 14 years.

      Mr. Prentiss was a wire drawer at Worcester Works, U.S. Steel Corp., for 20 years. He was later a grinder repairman for Vecack Corp. in Westboro for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He was a private in the Army Construction Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Denis Church and a former member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Worcester.

      The funeral will be tomorrow from Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 53 Illinois St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours at the funeral home are 6 to 9 tonight. The family requests flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Assocaiation of Greater Milford-Northbridge Area Inc., 1 Emerson St., Mendon 01756.

As to Robert's son, Paul E. Prentice, above, his obituary of 9 Mar 2000, published in the Telegram & Gazette, Worcester, MA, provides the following information:

    Obituary: WORCESTER -- Paul E. Prentiss, 54, of 20 Sigel St., died Saturday, March 4, in St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness.

    He leaves a stepson, Matthew Marshall of Worcester; a brother, Brian Prentiss of Pittsfield; a sister, Corinne (Prentice) Brooks of East Douglas; nephews and nieces; and his fiancee, Mary K. (Roch) Allen of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Robert J. and Beatrice R. (Bonin) Prentiss, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School.

    Mr. Prentiss worked for the Auburn & Son Roofing Co., Spencer, and had been in the roofing business for 30 years.

    The funeral will be held Saturday, March 11, from Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
