Update of 17 Apr 2004: Charles Prentiss is a son of Zacharias Prentice , discussed in our Summer 1998 isssue. That article now replaces, and includes, all information contained in this article.
Charles Prentice, b. Jun 1857 in Ohio, first appears in the 1900 Summit Co., OH census with his wife, Barbara Beck, b. Jul 1862 in OH. She was the daughter of Catherine Beck, b. Oct 1827 in Germany, who was living with Charles' family at the time of the 1900 census.
Their children, as shown 1900, 1910 and 1920 Summit County census are:
- Edna M. Prentiss, b. Jun 1891, OH.
- Sarah Mabel Prentiss, b. Jul 1892, OH.
- Zacharias Ransom Prentiss, b. May 1897, OH. (Note: his first and middle names might reversed)
Charles does not appear with his family in the 1920 census so he might be deceased by that date.
Because of the name of his son, Charles is quite likely a descendant of Zachariah Ransom Prentice discussed in our Summer 1998 issue, who married in Summit Co., OH and whose roots we have not yet identified.
