No other Prentice family appears in the 1850 Adair County census, but in Wayne County, abutting to the east, were:

      • Hampton Prentice, single, b. c. 1822, KY, Laborer. He is the son of Daniel Prentice, born, 1782, in Botetourt Co., VA (see below). Hampton's mother was Levin Kinder who had married Daniel on 2 Dec 1805 in Madison Co., KY. Hampton and his parents are descendants of William Prentis of Williamsburg, VA.

If John is related to Hampton and Daniel, John's 1800 birth date would preclude him from being a son of Daniel and Levin since Daniel and Levin did not marry until 1805 (unless he had an unknown prior marriage).

John might be a grandson of Daniel's father, also named Daniel, who was b. c. 1750, probably in VA, who m. Isabel (surname unknown) at an unknown date. The elder Daniel would have been only about 50 in 1800, and Isabel, if somewhat younger than her husband, may still have been of child-bearing age.

      • Daniel Pentice, b. c. 1782. Also in his Wayne Co. household is an Isabella Prentice, b. c. 1812. She cannot be the mother of this Daniel's children because they were all born before 1812. She is, therefore, likely a granddaughter or the widow of one of Daniel's sons. Also in the household is an Emily Prentice, b. c. 1839, perhaps Isabella's daughter. Daniel is a descendant of William Prentis of Williamsburg, VA.

John m. 2nd Margaret Gaffney on 30 Jul 1864. John and his 2nd wife, Peggy, appear in the 1870 and 1880 Schuyler Co., IL census.
