This is an actual inscription on an 1889 tombstone:
Here lies our infant son
Now he never hollers
He graced us for 14 days
And cost us $40 Dollars
In another article in this issue mentioned using Haiku in genealogy which has the 5-syllable, 7-syllable, 5-syllable format. If the headstone were reduced to Haiku, it might read as follows:
Here lies our infant,
and now he never hollers.
Gone, $40 Dollars.
