He and his wife and children, are identified in the 1920 census as "Negro (Black)", except that Elworth, almost certainly Negro/Black, was born after the 1940 census and his information comes from a published obituary in Ancestry.com.

3. Elworth L. Prentiss, was b. c. 1942 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, and d. 13 Dec 2013. Elworth, almost certainly Negro/Black, was born after the 1940 census and his information comes from a published obituary in Ancestry.com. His obituary reads as follows:

    Elworth L. "Mello Yello" Prentiss Sr. died Fri., Dec. 13, 2013, at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. He was 71.

    Born in Chicago, he was a U. S. Army veteran and was retired from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Dredge Jadwin. He was a member of China Grove M. B. Church, where he served as a Trustee.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Prentiss; his parents; one brother; and one sister.

    Survivors include three sons, Elworth L. Prentiss Jr. of Chicago, ArVant Prentiss and Derrick Johnson, both of San Bernadino, Calif.; three daughters, Trenna L. Prentiss of Willowbrook, Ill., Nyra L. Prentiss of San Bernadino, Calif., and LeTonia M. Johnson of Highland, Calif.; a brother, Arvon Prentiss Sr. of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Clover Valley M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 2 to 6 p.m.,and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
