Update of 12 Jan 2009: James Prentice is a son of William Prentice, #22.1(d) and grandson of Benjamin Prentis, #22.1, in our Summer 2001 article entitled Henry Prentice of Wigenhall, England . That article now replaces this article.
1. James Prentice was b. c. 1823 in Halstead, Essex, England, and d. there c. 1900. Not in the 1841 census. He appears there with his wife and family in the 1851 census as a "Factory Lab" living at 28 High Street, Halstead. He later appears in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census. (Ref: Ancestry.com .)
He m. Ann Hostler c. 1843 in Halstead. She was b. c. 1825 in Halstead, Essex. They had 3 or more children, including:

2. James Prentice, b. 1844, Halstead, Essex. At home in Halstead inthe 1851 census. 1881 and 1891 in Sudbury, Suffolk. 1901 census in Ballingdon Cum Brundon, Suffolk.
He m. Ellen Selina Foakes in 1866 in Sudbury, Suffolk. She was b. c. 1845, Sudbury, Essex. They had 3 or more children, including:
- James William Prentice, b. 1868. Sudbury, Suffolk. At home in 1881 census.
- Ernest Albert Prentice, b. 1874, Suffolk. At home in 1881 census. He m. Annie Scrivener, b. 1872, Middleton, Essex. She was the dau of Walter Scrivener (1848 -) and Emma Gardener (1849 -).
- Flora Alice Prentice, b. 1876, Sudbury, Suffolk. At home in 1881 census. She m. Albert E.Hollibone, 1900, Sudbury, Essex. He was b. 1877, Eastbourne, Sussex. An Ancestor Chart for him can be found at Ancestry.com .
3. Rosa Bonheur Prentice, b. 1848, Halstead,Essex. He was b. 1841, Haslstead.
She m. Henry Amey, son of James and Mary Amey. They had 3 or more children, including:
- Ernest Harry Ameyb. 1879, Halstead, Essex. At home in 1881, 1891 and 1901 in Hadleigh, Suffolk.
- Rosa Mary A. Amey, b. 1881, Essex. At home in 1881, 1891 and 1901 in Hadleigh, Suffolk.
- Annie Maud Amey, b. 1886, Halstead. At home in 1881 and 1891.
