1. James Prenticemay have been b. c. 1800, perhaps in or near Carluke where his son, William was born, and d. 30 May 1849, aged 49 years. He is bur in the Cambusnethan Churchyard, Kirk Road/Greenhead Road, Wishaw. He was a Handloom weaver according to the marriage record of his son, William (per Iain Lees, email, 3 Jan 2010).

James was a common name and might be one of 3-4 persons of that name born in that time frame. His marriage not shown in Glasgow marriage records.

He m. Christina Torrance. She was b. c. 1804 and d. 5 Jul 1885 aged 81 years. They had 1 or more children, including:

William Prentice, b. c. 1835, Carluke, and d. c. 18 Sep 1910, the date of his Death Certifcate, which also identifies his parents as James and Christina (per Iain Lees, email, 3 Jan 2010 referencing 1910 Deaths, 628/00-0293, the informant being Peter C. Prentice, a son by his second marriage to Grace Lightbody following Bethia's death.

William appears on the 1851 census in Cambusnethan as a tailor aged 16 living with his widowed mother, Christina Prentice

Jessie Prentice, b. 10 Oct 1863, Lesmahagow (born after census, per IGI). Not in 1871 or 1881 census.

William m. 2nd Grace Lightbody after Bethia's death. They appear in the 1881 census living at No. 139 Main St., Rutherglen, Lanarkshire where he is a Police Sergeant. 1891 census at 1 Westbank Quadrant, Govan, Lanarkshire; Police Sergeant. 1901 census at 48 Bank St., Govan. Children of William and Grace per census records:

John Torrance Prentice, b. c. 1874, Lesmahagow. 1881 at home in Rutherglen. 1891 at home in Govan. He may be the John Prentice shown in the 1901 census at 70 Kirkland St., Glasgow Kelvinside where he is a "Sorting Clerk Post Office" with his wife, Mary, b. c. 1873, Sky, Sterlingshire(?), and son:
1. William Prentice, b. c. 1895, Glasgow Lanarkshire. 1901 at home.
