1. James Horner Prentice was b. c. 1881, Michigan, per Ancestry.com and d. after 1947 per Ancestry.com: ref. Phyllis Renke Savage .

He m. Olive Lorena Liss in Nov 1946, Ventura, Ventura Co., CA. He was then 65 and she was then 47. She may be the Olive Prentice shown in the California Death Index as Olive L. Prentice, b. 7 Jun 1889, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo Co., CA, and d. 28 Jan 1967 in Burlington, San Mateo Co., CA. In Ancestry.com we find the following information:

    "He had a daughter in Vancouver, Canada from a previous marriage. He had a very
    bad drunken period at her Simi property. He wrecked the canning goods. After this he left
    and most likley became a bumb (sic). Ollie divorced him."

    They divorced, perhaps 6 Dec 1950, Los Angeles, CA. No children of the marriage.

Olive Lorena Liss was the dau. of Felix Liss. Felix was b. 26 Aug 1870, New Almaden Santa Clara Co., CA, and d. 24 Oct 1922, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo Co., CA. He was the son of John Liss, b. c. 1820 and d. 1896, and Jeanette Jane Chafain, b. c. 1833 and d. 1883, who were both French immigrants. An Ancestor Chart for Olive can be found at Ancestry.com .

In the 1880 Census for Almaden, Santa Clara Co., Felix is listed with his parents as a white male age 9 who is at school. His mother died when he was still 12 years old on 13 Oct 1883. In 1889 page 250 of the San Jose City Directory, Felix Liss is listed as a laborer for the SP (Southern Pacific) Company, he resides on Park Ave. near Delmas. On pg 258 of the 1890 San Jose City Directory, Felix Liss, a called a laborer and John Liss, a peddler residing on Walnut between Park Ave. and San Fernando.

Who are James Horner Prentice's Parents?

It is unclear whether he is the same James H. Prentice who appears in our Winter 2002 article entitled James H. Prentice of MI and Bellingham, WA .
