Who are William B. Prentice's Parents?

The only clues we have so far comes from the 1920 census which says that his father was b. in Scotland and his mother in England.

He does not appear in the 1900 or 1910 census.

He was unmarried when he emigrated and he almost certainly married after arrival since his wife, Edna, was b. in Michigan.

We compared the 1891 England census with the 1901 England census to see what men of that name of that name appeared in the 1891 census but did not appear in the 1901 census (recognizing that he might not have appeared in the 1891 census. We found the following 1891 men missing in the 1901 census:

  1. William Prentice, b. c. 1872, Clapton, London, and in 1891 living in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
  2. William Prentice, b. c. 1872, Littlehampton, Sussex, and in 1891 living in West Ham, Essex.
  3. William Prentice, b. c. 1872, London, and in 1891 living in Lambeth, London.
  4. William Prentice, b. c. 1873, Wandsworth, London, and in 1891 living in Aldershot, Hampshire.
  5. William Prentioce, b. c. 1874, Camden, London, and in 1891 living in Limehouse, London.

Since the 1920 census says he emigrated in 1898 at the age of 25, in an effort to narrown the foregoing list we also checked Ellis Island records to see if we could find a match. Unfortunately those records do not include arrivals before 1900.

Investigation is continuing.
