Names in Hindsight

Names in Hindsight
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2008 and Revised 25 Feb 2008

The names parents give children see right at the time, but the perception of those names may change with the passing of time or of generations.

As an example, Seth Hooker, b. c. 1759, m. Abigail Gay who was b. 21 Jun 1764 in Hinsdale, NH. They named a daughter Sarah Gay Hooker who was b. 22 Jun 1797 in Hinsdale, NH.

If you have any interesting family names which, in hindsight, seem ill-chosen, please send your information to us at the Prentice Newsletter. Be sure to give the full title and date of this article in the Subject line of the email.

Caution: If you don't use the above email link, your email to us may be deleted as spam by our email filter.
