That William Prentice was b/ c. 1798 in Snitterfield which lies only about 4 miles NE of Stratord-upon-Avon
3. Sarah Prentice, chr. 25 Mar 1801 Holy Trinity, Stratford On Avon
4. John Prentice. chr. 27 May 1803 Holy Trinity, Stratford On Avon. Not in 1841 or 1851 census.

It is here that we have a problem. The census index for 1861 census in Stratford on Avon, Old Stratford Civil Parish, identifies a John Prentice (no age or place of birth is provided) as the father of the children set out below. However, he does not appear in the microfilmed original census sheet so it is unclear how such identification came to be in the census index. In fact, the mother of those children is identified as a "Widow."

So, based solely on such identification, and John's age and birth place, we are only tentatively, as an investigative lead, identifying the 1825 John as the father of the children below. Further investigation is needed to confirm, or refute, such identification.

The 1851 census shows that a John Prentice. b. c. 1827, Stratford on Avon, with a wife, Mary, b. c. 1831, Clifford, Gloucestershire. She may, or may not, be the Mary shown below as b. c. 1825, Moreton In Marsh, Gloucstershire.

The children's mother is identified in both the 1851 and 1861 census as Mary A., b. c. 1825, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire. Mary's children are:

1. Elizabeth Prentice, b. c. 1851, Stratford, Warwickshire
2. William Prentice, b. c. 1851, Warwickshire
3. (perhaps) Sarah Prentice who d. in Moreton in Marsh at the age of 1 week (per Death Index).

5. Joseph Prentice was b. c. 1851-53 in Stratford on Avon,Warwickshire, England. In the 1871 census he is unmarried and living in the home of George and Elizabeth Sumner. He appears in the 1881 census living at 5 House 9 Court Digbeth, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as a General Labourer, with his wife and family. They also appear in the 1891 and 1901 census in Deritend, Aston, Warwickshire where he is shown as a Brick laborer.

1. Elizabeth/Lizzie Prentice, b. c. 1863, Evesham, Worcster. Not home in 1891.

3. Emma Prentice, b. c. 1871, Birmingham, Warwick. At home in 1891 where she is called Emma Smith. She does not appear at home in the 1901 census, but living with Joseph and his family is:
   1. John Smith, gandson, b. c. 1891.
4. Mary Ann Prentice, b. c. 1873, Birmingham, Warwick. At home in 1891.
5. Joseph Prentice b. c. 1875, Birmingham, Warwick. Not shown at home in 1891 census.

Living with them in the 1891 census was Alfred Stokes, grandson, b. c. 1886, Birmingham. He might be a son of Elizabeth/Lizzie, above.

Living with Joseph and his family in the 1901 census are:

1. Mary Roberts, granddaughter, b. c. 1895, Birmingham.
2. Lily Priest, granddaughter, age unclear, b. Birmingham.
