Steven S. Prentice of Independence, Montgomery Co., Kansas

Steven S. Prentice of Independence, Montgomery Co., Kansas
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2005 and Revised 27 Feb 2005

Update of 27 Feb 2005: Steven S. Prentice is a son of Charles Thaddeus Kosiosko Prentice and a descendant of Robert Prentice of Roxbury, MA. The 1910 census reference to both of Steven's parents being born in KS is an error. His father was b. in CT and his mother was b. in VA.

1. Steven S. Prentice was b. c. 1878 in Kansas. He appears in the 1880 census in Lawrence, Douglas Co., KS, where his name is spelled "Stephen", and in the 1910 census in Independence, Montgomery Co., KS, as a boarder. The 1910 census shows that both of Steven's parents were b. in KS. Living in that same boarding house was Mable Prentice, b. c. 1885, KS. The census entries indicated both parties were married, so she may have been his wife.

Steven later appears in the 1920 census in Manhattan, Riley Co., KS, with his (2nd?) wife, Florence, b. c. 1895, MO (both parents b. in KS), and daughter:

  1. Ella May Prentice, b. c. 1915, KS.

Steven does not appear in the 1930 census.
