1. Thomas Prentice was b. c. 1821 in Ireland. He appears in the 1870, but not 1880, census in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA.
He m. Jane who was b. c. 1824 in Ireland. She appears, without her husband, in the 1880 Philadelphia census as a Hotel Keeper. She is likely the same "Jane" who appears in the 1860 Alison, Clinton Co., PA census. Children (per 1860 and 1880 census):
- Mary Prentice, b. c. 1856-57, PA. Living with her mother in the 1880 census as a Music Teacher. She appears in the 1920 census with her husband, Edward S. Rowan(?).
- James Prentice, b. c. 1858-60, PA. Living with his mother in the 1880 census as a Watch Case Maker. He is probably the James D. Prentice who appears in the 1920 census in Philadelphia, unmarried, living with his sister, Mary, and her husband, Edward S. Rowan(?). Not in 1930 census.
- Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1863, PA. Living at home in 1880 as a Clerk/Store. Not in 1920 or 1930 census.
Also living with the family in 1880 was Matilda McDonough, b. c. 1830, Ireland, called a cousin.
Living only a couple doors away from James (above, b. c. 1858-1860) in the 1920 Philadelphia census is Thomas D. Prentiss, b. c. 1843-44 in NY. Thomas' close proximity suggests he might be a brother to James' father.
