1. John Prentice was likely b. c. 1785-90 and perhaps in, or near, Greenwich, Kent England. He m. Sarah Austin on 14 Nov 1808 at Saint Alphage, Greenwich, Kent. They had 1 or more children, including:

Although not yet confirmed, but because the time and location fit, John Prentice might be the same John Prentice shown in the IGI who m. Mary and had:

5. William Prentice, chr. 6 Oct 1823 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent
6. James Prentice, chr. 23 Oct 1825 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent
7. James Prentice, chr. 20 Feb 1829 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent

2. John Robert Prentice, chr. 30 Sep 1812, St. Alphage, Greenwich. He is likely the same person as the John Prentice. Tailor, shown in the 1881 census as b. c. 1814 in Lewisham, Kent, which is only about 2 miles SW of Greenwich. The 1881 John lived at 1 Bishop Building in Lewisham where he is called a Lodger. No wife is shown. Possible son:

1. (perhaps son) John Prentice b. c. 1837, Lewisham, Kent (See John Owen Prentice, below). . . . . . [3]

2. Henry Prentice, chr. 18 Dec 1844 St Alphage, Greenwich, Kent.
3. John Owen Prentise, chr. 18 Dec 1844 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent. Since 1844 is a christening date, and since 3 of the children of John and Jane were christened in 1844, John could well be the same John Prentice who was b. c. 1837 in Lewisham, above.
4. Sarah Ann Prentise, chr. 18 Dec 1844 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent.
5. William Prentice, chr. 5 Aug 1846 St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent.

3. John Prentice was b. c. 1837 in Lewisham, Kent and may be the same John Prentice who was chr. 18 Dec 1844 at St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent, above. He appear in the 1881 Lee, Kent, census as a Grocer living at 13 Boone St. with his wife, Caroline, b. c. 1836, Devon, and children:

1. Mary J. Prentice, b. c. 1865, Plumstead, Kent.
2. Albert Prentice, b. c. 1880(?), Plumstead, Kent. The date may be a transcription error in view of the 1891 census entry, below.

Although there is an age and place of birth difference, John Prentice would seem to be the same person as the John Prentice, b. c. 1835, Blackheath, London who appears in the 1891 census of Plumstead, Woolwich, as a Grocer/Blacksmith living at on Weallerlay Rd. with his wife, Caroline, b. c. 1837, Somerset, Devon, and children:

1. Albert Prentice, b. c. 1870, Plumstead, Kent.
2. Mary J. Prentice, b. c. 1865, Plumstead, Kent. She is shown in John's household with her husband, Arthur S. Spaif,b, c. 1860, Southsea, Hants, and children:
   1. John W. Spaif, b. c. 1881, Plumstead, Kent.
   2. Robert A. Spaif, b. c. 1885, Lewisham, London.
   3. Cyril A. Spaif, b. c. 1890, Plumstead, Kent
