Kerry Prentice, by email of 20 May 2003, has provided us with information about the following family which we have augmented using census records:

1. Henry Prentice was b. c. 1836 in Maldon, Essex, England, which lies approximately 6-7 miles east of Chelmsford. He d. before 1901.

In 1860, Henry was a Mariner in the Merchant Service and lived at 5 Woolfe Terrace, Bermondsey, Surrey. They appear, without children, in the 1861 census in Maldon. In 1881 they lived at 13 New Road, Cold Harbour, Poplar/London. In 1891 Poplar census. He does not appear in the IGI.

Henry m. Emily Saunders, dau. of John Saunders. She was b. c. 1837 in Maldon. In the 1901 census in District 31, Poplar, Poplar, London, she was a widow living with some of her children. They had the following known children:

1. Alice(?) Prentice, b. 31 Dec 1860, St. Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Surrey. In 1861, Alice was living at "Wants", St. Peter, Maldon, Essex, with Grandfather John Saunders.
2. William Prentice, b. c. 1862, Bermondsey (East), Surrey. In 1881 he was a Lighterman. Not in 1891 or 1901 census.
3. Henry Prentice, b. c. 1864, Poplar. In 1881 he was a Labourer. At home in 1891. In 1901 living with his mother and was a "Lighterman Barge" in District 31, Poplar, Poplar, London, England.
4. Albert Prentice, b. c. 1869, Poplar, Middlesex. At home in 1881 and 1891.Not in 1901 census.
5. Jesse Prentice, b. c. 1873, Poplar, Middlesex. At home in 1881. In 1901 in District 31, Poplar, Poplar, London, Jesse appears as "Jessie Ross", living with her mother, without her husband, but with her daughter:
   1. Jessie Ross, b. c. 1897.
6. Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1871, Blackwell, Poplar Civil Parish,Middlesex. At home in 1881 and 1891. In 1901 Poplar census with his wife, Edith, b. c. 1862, Poplar, and children:
   1. James Prentice, b. c. 1900, Poplar.
   2. Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1897, Poplar.
7. Frances Prentice, b. c. 1875, Poplar, Middlesex. At home in 1881. Not in 1891 and 1901 census.
8. George Prentice, b. c. 1878, Poplar, Middlesex. At home in 1881.In 1901 in District 31, Poplar, Poplar, London, he is probably the "Geo(?)", b. c. 1877 and living with his mother and siblings.
