1. David Prentice was b. Mar 1826 in England. He appears in the 1900 Chicago, IL census with no wife, but living with his son:
- Charlotte Prentice, b. c. 1852, England. . . . . . . . [2]
- William Prentice, b. Oct 1866, England. . . . . . . . [3]
- Mary Prentice, b. c. 1861, England. Living with Harry and Charlotte Cheatle in the 1880 census and called a sister-in-law.
2. Charlotte Prentice, b. c. 1852, England. She m. Harry Cheatle, b. 1848, but it is unclear whether that was before or after her emigration to America at some date prior to 1875. They appear in the 1880 census where Harry is shown as operating a meat market. Children (per 1880 census):
- Gertrude Cheatle, b. c. 1875, IL.
- Frank J. Cheatle, b. c. 1879, IL.
3. William Prentice, b. Oct 1866, England. We do not know when he emigrated to American, but he probably emigrated with his sister, Charlotte, at some date prior to 1875. William first appears in the 1880 Chicago, Cook Co., IL census living in the home of Harry Cheatle and Charlott/Charlotte Cheatle, both born in England. William is there called a brother-in-law, indicating that he would be Charlotte's brother, and working in aC meat market, probably Cheatle's.
William later appears in the 1900 Chicago, IL with his father, David (above), and wife, Emma Peterson, b. Feb 1869, WI, and son:
- Elmer Prentice, b. Dec 1884, IL.
It appeared, initially, that David Prentice might be the David Prentice, b. c. 1827-8 in Flowton, Suffolk, England, a Coal Porter, who appears in the 1841 census. He later appears in the 1881 census living on George Street in Hadleigh, Suffolk, England, with his wife, Mary A., b. c. 1829, Westminster, Middlesex, and children:
- John Prentice, b. c. 1866, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
- Elizabeth Prentice, b. c. 1870, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
- Edith Prentice, b. c. 1870, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
However, in our article about John Prentice of Needham, Suffolk, England, that David is #11 and has a different wife and his children shown there are inconsistent with those of the David Prentice in this article (Charlotte, William and Mary).
