Update of 13 Jan 2009: Unknown Prentice is William Prentice who appears in our Spring 2009 article entitled William Prentice of Scotland and Bay City, MI . That article now replaces this article.
1. (Unknown) Prentiss was b. c. 1821 or 1826 in Scotland. He and his family emigrated to the United States sometime between 1848 and 1855 when a son was b. in PA. Between 1855 and 1858 his family moved to MI. He was either 34 or 39 when he appears in the 1860 Bay City, Bay Co., MI census with his wife, Mary, b. c. 1830 in Scotland, and his children:
- Alexander Prentiss, b. c. 1848, Scotland.
- William Prentiss, b. c. 1855, PA.
- Jane Prentiss, b. c. 1858, MI. She might have married George Shorey (see below).
They apparently do not appear in the 1870 and later MI census records.
Investigation is continuing.
