In reviewing the 1860 census we found the following Prentice for whom we have yet to identify his family, ancestors or descendants:
1. Lawrence Prentice was b. c. 1840-42 in WI. He appears in the 1860 Bloomfield, Davis Co., IA census as a 19 year old single male whose occupation is given as "Stage Driver."
We checked our extracts from the 1850 WI census, but did not find any Lawrence Prentice of that age born in WI. We did, however, find in the 1850 census in Trenton, Dodge Co., WI, a Lawrence Prentice, b. c. 1839 in East Aurora, Erie Co., NY, son of Judson Prentice and Almira Woodruff who is EDB 960 in our database and a descendant of Valentine-3 Prentice.
It seems likely that they are the same person and that the person providing the census information erred in identifying the birth state. No Lawrence Prentice is found in the later 1870 and 1880 census born in either NY or WI.
We did not find any other Prentice family living in Davis County, IA in the 1860 census
