Update of 3 Sep 2009: George Prentice is #163(v)(a) in our Valentine-3 eBook. That eBook now replaces this article and any future update will be to that eBook.
With the help of Florence M. Musta's email of 7 Dec 2002 and the 1920 census, we have prepared the following information:
1. George Prentice was b. c. 1893 in OH, as were both of his parents. He appears in the 1920 Ecorse, Wayne Co., MI census with his wife and family.
He m. Muriel Orvis, b. Mar 1897, MI. Ancestor Charts for her can be found at Ancestry.com . Children:
- George Prentice, b. 21 Mar 1913, MI and was killed by a train 22 Oct 1921 at age 8 in Wyandotte, MI.
- Riley Prentice, b. 10 Nov 1914, MI and d. 23 Jun 2001 at Wellston, Manistee, MI. He is probably the Riley Prentice who m., as her 2nd husband, Mildred "Mickie" Evans; she was b. 11 Jan 1920 and d. 11 Jan 1996 in Wellston, MI. She was previously m. to Bernard Bulersky and had children: Stephen, Mildred and Theresa "Tina" Bulerski.
- Stanley Prentice, b. 10 Dec 1916, MI. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. A prisoner of the Germans, he was in the group of soilders kept in a box car and was fed nothing but potato peels. Stanley d. 21 Oct 1993 at Lincoln Park or Wyandotte, Wayne Co., MI.
- Clarence Prentice, b. 8 May 1918, MI. He served in the U. S. Air Force in England during WW II. He d. 19 Mar 1993.
- Anna A. Prentice, b. 9 Nov 1919, MI and d. 16 Oct 1998. She m. Mr. Belanger.
Families often emigrate togethether. As an example, my father was b. in Nebraska in 1903. In 1946 he moved to Santa Ana, Orange Co., CA, where his parents were living. His brother had also moved to Santa to be near his parents. The result was that the parents and 2 of their sons were all living with a very few miles of each other.
Since George was living in in Ecorse, MI, in 1920, it would not be unusual if George's parents were living within a few miles of George in the 1920 census.
With that in mind, we checked to 1920 census to see what other Prentices, of an age to be Georges parents, were living within a few miles of Ecorse, MI. None were found where both the husband and wife were born in OH as indicated by the 1920 census.
