ANCESTORS OF THE NEW ORLEANS BRANCH
Samuel Prentice Jr.
“Deacon” Samuel Prentice Jr. (Nov. 25, 1702 - Oct. 11, 1773) was the firstborn of Samuel and Esther’s 10 children. At the age of seven he moved with his family to Stonington, Conn., where he spent most of his life as Town Clerk and as a deacon in his church. He and his wife Abigail Billings had thirteen children.

Abigail Billings's Family Tree
Though almost nothing is known about Samuel's wife Abigail Billings (Mar. 1, 1707 - Oct. 30, 1789), she furnished a connection with the Denison family and with the descendants of Valentine Prentice. Here's where she came from:
William Denison (1650-1654)
  m. Margaret Chandler (1577-1646)
           |
Col. George Denison Sr. (1620-1694)                  Robert Lay
  m 2nd Ann Borrodell                                   m. Sarah _____
           |                                                |
      John Denison (b. 1646)——————————+——————————————m. Phoebe Lay (b.1651)
                                      |
                  Phoebe Lay Denison——+—————m. Ebenezer Billings (b. 1684)
                                      |
Abigail Billings, wife of Samuel Prentice Jr.

Through Abigail, then, our branch of the Prentice family is connected not only to the Denisons but also to the Chandler, Borrodell, Lay, and Billings families. In addition, Col. Denison's granddaughter Hannah Cheesbrough (Abigail's 1st cousin once removed) married into Valentine Prentice's family, thus connecting the families of Valentine and Thomas Prentice through the Denison line.
