    1.   JOHN PENCE, b. abt. 1790 in Lancaster Co., Penn.; m. on 16 Oct. 1814, at Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, Eve Baughman.

Child of John and Eve (one known, perhaps others?):

  1. Henry Pence, b. 6 January 1833, in Ohio.

    2.   HENRY PENCE, son of John and Eve; m. 1st. on 2 Jan. 1855, at Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, Elizabeth Conwell, b. 17 Dec. 1833, d. 15 Aug. 1886. He d. 1914. They are both buried in Ridge Cemetery about 4 miles east of Van Wert, Ohio.

  2. Martha Elma Pence, b. 2 May 1857; d. 19 April 1882; m. _____ Gamble.

  4. Mary Alice Pence, b. 19 Jan. 1861; d. 22 Aug. 1959; m. Henry Traup (or Troup); she resided at Vanwert, Ohio.
  5. Elizabeth Jane Pence, b. 24 Dec. 1863; d. 25 April 1931; m. Robert Palmer; she resided at Vanwert, Ohio.
  6. Harriet Pence, b. 6 Aug. 1865; d. 27 Feb. 1944; m. _____ Glover; she resided at Vanwert, Ohio.
  7. Ida Marietta Pence, b. 15 March 1868; d. 13 Sep. 1885.
  8. Harry Hussey Pence, b. 27 May 1871; d. 12 Sep. 1889.
  9. Nettie Florence Pence, b. 30 June 1874; d. 12 March 1962; m. Harmon Long Dunathan; she resided at St. Mary's, Ohio.
  10. Ollie Belle Pence, b. 25 Dec. 1876; d. 6 Aug. 1938; unmarried; she resided at St. Mary's, Ohio.

    3.   Dr. LEROY R. PENCE, son of Henry and Elizabeth; m. on 25 Oct. 1884, at Mercer Co., Ohio, Alice F. Townsend. They resided in Lima, Ohio.

The following is a quote from 'The Ohio Guide', Oxford University Press, 3rd printing 1946:

In Lima was originated an unusual organization known as the Borrowed Time Club, founded in 1931 by Dr. Leroy Pence to promote the social interests of men who had passed their 70th birthday. The club, which has more than 1,300 members, has served as a model for organizations in several other cities. The members, living on 'borrowed time' since they have passed the allotted three score years and ten, meet weekly for discussions and entertainments of various kinds. They are granted special concessions in streetcar fares and in theater admissions.

    4.   Dr. JAMES CONWELL PENCE, son of Henry and Elizabeth; m. aft. 1886, possibly in Middle Point, Van Wert Co., Ohio, Lillian May Griswold, b. possibly in 1865, at Brooklyn, N.Y., dau. of Norman Delmar Griswold of Middle Point, Ohio.

  1. Helen May Pence, b. 1 Nov. 1897, at Spencerville, Allen Co., Ohio; d. 16 Aug. 1979, at Danvers, Ma.; m. Mervyn Manlove Millikan, son of James McLain and Isabel (Manlove) Millikan.
