Hi! I'm looking for info on the following PRENTISS Surname: Henry Leonidas
Prentiss married Rebecca Mayberry probably in Belleville, Wood County, Virginia
on April 14, 1814. The result of this union is as follows:
Benjamin Mayberry Prentiss born Nov 23, 1819 probably in Wood Co., Va (Now WV),
sisters were: Henrietta; Lucy; and Mary. Dates of birth and place are unknown
at this time. I have found some information on Ben M. Prentiss as follows:
Henry L. Prentiss was living in Wood County, Virginia in the year of 1816 - See
Tax Records on the rootsweb.com site which has the names of all inhabitants who
were early land owners in Wood county, Va = Tax Commission Records of 1802-1822
posted on the Wood County website. Benjamin Mayberry, George Mayberry, and
John P. Mayberry, Abraham Pennybacker and Derrick Pennybacker were listed also.
The preceding names are all relatives of Benjamin Maybewrry Prentiss and his
siblings. I have also, found that Ben's family moved to Bethany, Harrison Co., MO.,
date unknown. Later Benjamin M. Prentiss was found to have attended a Military Academy
and that he assembled a group of men and took them to Quincy. Illinois for entry on
active duty at the beginning of the Civil War. I am not really sure of my memory of
what little I know or have read about him but, do know that he was given a commission
as an officer in the US Army and later was promoted to Colonel, then to Brigidair General
and still later due to his bravery and skill as a leader of men in combat was given the
Command of a large group of men Regiment or Division and his unit was detailed to engage
the enemy (CSA) at Shiloh battle, and was given the center part of the line of battle
with his command which was later referred to as the battle of the "Hornet's Nest".
His unit fought gallantly but due to the superior force of the Confederates he and his
unit was captured. Ben M. Prentiss was later promoted to Lieutenant General. The LDS
has some info on him. See Source Information: Film Number: 1903559 Page Batch #:
8922108, Sheet #: 25, Source Call #: 12553474. If anyone reading this have any
information on him and his parents and siblings please contact me. I have next to
nothing on anyone other than Ben Mayberry Prentice. I need dates and names, and facts.

My husband'd Prentice is Abigail who married Thomas Warner on 4 Jul 1749 in Woodbury per History of Ancient Woodbury.
She died Nov 1794, probably in Woodbury.
I have her baptism as 17 Nov 1728, per a cousin's deceased mother, with no source given.
Was told she was the daughter of Valentine and Abigail Walker. I have no information on Abigail Walker either.

Searching for information on Lewis Prentice/Prentis bp June 20, 1790, Thorp Arch, Yorkshire, England, died December 9, 1852 in Hobart, Australia. His wife was Margaret (Stabler?) and they had several children all born in England.
Lewis and his eldest son, Edward, went to Australia in the 1830’s. Both died there in the 1850’s. Other children of Lewis and Margaret were John Stabler Prentice who married Mary Ann Thorp(e), (my direct ancestors) Lewis, Emma, Matilda, Lousia, Jane, Sarah, and Elizabeth.
Edward Prentis married Ann . Their children were William Charles, Sarah Ann, John Albert and Frederick Lewis. There may have been other children. William Charles married Alice Eliza Hogarth in Hobart, Australia on March 4, 1878. Some of this family
later moved to New Zealand.
The parents of Lewis were Francis Prentis and Sarah Birdsall. Francis and Sarah were married in Thorps Arch on April 22, 1789. Anyone out there related to this Prentice/Prentis family???
