Who are William C. Prentiss's Parents?

If we assume that it is correct that William C. Prentiss was b. 1831 in Monroe County, New York, then it is probable that his father would appear in the 1839 census in Monroe County. A search of the 1830 census shows that Silas Prentis lived in Penfield, Monroe Co., NY with his wife and family. Silas is #2 in our Prentice Newsletter article entitled Christopher Prentice of Connecticut .

Christopher moved to Penfield and had a family, including a son, Silas Prentice, who was b. 10 Sep 1805. Silas, in turn, had at least 4 children, including William Prentice, b. c. 1831, Penfield, Monroe Co., NY. While additional corroboration is needed, it seems probable that this William Prentice is the same person as #1 William C. Prentice, above.
