Sun, The (Baltimore, MD) — Friday, August 16, 1996: Mr Harry Houston Prentice, 84

Harry Houston Prentice, 84, managed GM plant, retired general manager of the General Motors Broening Highway plant and breeder of thoroughbred horses, died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at the Bel Air Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 84 and lived in Jarrettsville.

He went to work in the automaker's Detroit mailroom in 1934 and rose to manage GM facilities in Cincinnati and in Van Nuys and Oakland, Calif. He retired from the Baltimore plant in 1974. "He was always known as a firm but fair arbiter between labor and management,'' said his wife of eight years, the former Doris Mason Mott. According to his family, Mr. Prentice helped develop shipping new automobiles on rail flatcars in answer to a trucking strike.

After he retired, his enthusiasm for horses led him to breed thoroughbred at Penrage, his 100-acre farm in Jarrettsville. An avid fox hunter who rode until he was 79, he was a former master of foxhounds of the West Hills Hunt in Los Angeles in the early 1960s and later the Elkridge-Harford Hunt Club hounds after moving to Maryland. He also was a member of the Mount Carmel Hounds in Parkton and the Hillendale Country Club.

He served on the advisory board of the National Alliance of Businessmen and was a former director of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Baltimore. 1.3 Jon Randolph Prentice, aka Randy Prentice, b. 2 Jun 1943, Baltimore, MD, and d. 16 Jun 2017, St. Simons Island, GA. 1996 in FL. His obituary reads as follows:

Brunswick News, The (GA) - Saturday, July 1, 2017,

Jon Randolph "Randy" Prentice, of St. Simons Island, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. He died from complications as a result of Lewy Body Dementia two weeks after his 74th birthday.

Born in Baltimore, Md., June 2, 1943, his parents were Harry Houston Prentice and Margaret Jones Prentice. Because his father was a General Motors executive, Randy attended various schools in Maryland, Ohio, and California. During the Vietnam War he served stateside in the National Guard. He then went on to work at General Motors plants in Van Nuys, Calif., Baltimore, Md., and Lordstown, Ohio. He retired in 1993 from the Lordstown assembly plant. However, as his early retirement suggests, being an engineer for GM, though rewarding, did not consume his life.

He pursued and mastered dozens of passions including rodeo riding as a teenager in Oakland, Calif. While still in California, he started motorcycle racing and continued after moving to Ohio from 1965-1976. The next 10 years were spent whitewater kayaking and leading whitewater rafting tours on both eastern and western rivers. From 1986 through 2014, he sailed between the Great Lakes and the Bahamas along the Atlantic coast, eventually becoming a licensed captain. He sold his last sailboat, Strider, in late 2016. At various times he also surfed, wind-surfed, took flying and skydiving lessons and was an avid cyclist.

Randy met his wife, Diana Guercio, while working at the Lordstown plant during his motocross days. It was a blind date arranged by Randy's older sister Penny Prentice Hopkins in Bel Air, Md. Penny and Diana, both registered nurses, became acquainted while working together at a nearby hospital. In 1966 Randy and Diana were married in Austintown, Ohio. Throughout the decades that followed, they raised two sons and included them in all of their adventures together — canoeing, skiing, hiking, climbing, caving, etc. Having been frequent visitors to Jekyll Island by sailboat since 1996, they fell in love with the Golden Isles and made it their home.

Besides Diana and his sister Penny, those who will miss him are his children, Jon Houston Prentice of Skykomish, Wash., Jed Prentice and his wife Kathleen of Takoma Park, Md., and their children, Cedric and Leah. Described by family and friends as a "force of nature" and a "man's man," he will be remembered by so many for his larger-than-life persona, intense curiosity and adventurous spirit.

Randy had a knack for cutting right to the chase and striking friendships with those whose expertise he wanted to emulate, and then he would turn around and share such knowledge with those around him. He was often the first or the only person to volunteer to help someone whether they were endangered or merely inconvenienced. Randy was a very proactive man with fairly keen situational awareness. And he always "Cowboy'd Up."

The family plans two occasions to celebrate his fully-lived life, on July 29 at Jekyll Island and on Sept. 30 along the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525. Following Randy's wishes, his body was donated for scientific study through the National Disease Research Interchange in Philadelphia, Pa.

Many friends heard with regret of the passing away of Mrs. George Prentice, which occurred in Collingwood on Saturday evening last. In October last Mrs. Prentice suffered severely from an attack of rheumatism, and it weakened her to such an extent that when pneumonia set in later she had not sufficient strength to shake it off.

Mrs. Prentice was a lady whose amiability and quiet Christian character was well known in the circle in which she moved. She was an honored member of the Methodist church, and with her husband and family lived for many years at Dunedin, worshipping at the Lavender church. Her remains were brought here by train on Tuesday morning and taken out to Lavender cemetery for interment, six sons acting as pallbearers. George and Mary farmed at Tweed, Ontario near Peterborough, then moved to Dunedin. They came as far as Orangeville by train. From Orangeville, George, along with the two oldest boys, Albert and William, drove their livestock to a farm near Shelburne owned by the Tates. Mary and the other children came on to Shelburne on the train and were met there by Mr. Tate, who took them to his farm to await the men and their livestock. They then moved on to their newly purchased farm at Dunedin. George built the house that still stands today (2003) on the farm. It is a lovely two-story brick house. Is James related to the Carlow Prentices?

Is James Prentice related to Michael Prentice of Carlow and his descenants?

Perhaps not. Carlow is a township in Hastings Co. The only hamlet of any size in the township is Boulter which is located about 10 miles east of the village of Bancroft. Carlow is approx. 35 miles north of Huntingdon township. By email of 11 Sep 2001, Brandt Zatterberg (no kin) advises that the townships in that region are set out in a rectangular grid pattern as follows:

	McClure Wicklow Bangor
	Herschel Monteagle	Carlow
	Faraday Dungannon	Mayo
	Wollaston Limericak	Cashel
	Lake Turler Grimsthorpe
	Marmoda Madoc Elzevir
	Rawdon Huntingdon	Hungerford
	Sidney Thurlow Tyendinaga
He also advises that the pattern of settlement was that major settlements began in the southern townships after the Revolution (1784). The middle townships were opened up as sons and daughters of the orignally grants required their own land (1810-1840). The northern townships are still sparsely populated by their 'serious' growth is as a result of the lumber trade (1850-1870). The north of Hastings saw further growth nearing the end of the 19th century with the discover of mineral deposits.
