John is the son of Nathaniel Prentice and Margaret Hedden, and Nathaniel is a descendant of the immigrant, Valentine Prentice.

1. Elizabeth S. Prentice, b. 9 May 1868, MI. She m. Ellsworth Clemens on 9 May 1868 (per Noble Co. marriages).

2. John F. Prentice, b. Feb 1868, MI. He appears in the 1900 Elkhart, Elkhart Co., IN census with his wife, Beatrice, b. Nov 1869, IN. They would be the John F. Prentice and Beatrice Johnson who m. 25 Oct 1894 in Lagrange Co., IN (Bk. 6, pg. 270)

3. George Edgar Prentice, b. Jun 1870. His place is indicated to be MI in the 1880 census, but the 1900 census says IN. He m. Florence Moyer., b. Jul 1872, IN. In 1900 they are shown living with his parents. Children (per 1910 E. Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH census and Katherine McMillen):

4. Martha M. Prentice, b. c. 1874, OH. She m. John A. Engler (per Noble Co. marriage book #7; his parent are called Russell E. Prentice and Mary J. Reynolds).

5. Clarence A.(?) Prentice, b. c. 1877, OH. He appears in the 1920 Muncie, Delaware, IN census with his wife, Jane, b. c. 1884 in MI, and his son:
   • John Prentice, b. c. 1905, MN.

6. Earl Russell Prentice, b. 12 Jul 1880, Kendallville, Noble Co., IN. He was living at home in the 1900 Kendallville census. He appears in the 1920 Kendallville census with his family. He died 11 Jan 1962 and is buried in Lake View Cemetery, Kendalville. His occupation was that of a plumber according to the birth record of his daughter, Harriet.

   He married, first, on 6 Jul 1903, Pauline H. Eichelbaugh, b. 1884, Kendallville, IN and died 1952. She is buried in Lake View Cem., Kendallville, Noble Co., IN. He married, second, on 10 June 1954, Mrs. Mary Marguerite "Maggie" (Seng) Mullen. Mary was born 2 Feb 1890 in Noble County and was was the daughter of William Christian Seng and Louise Leinns and widow of Charles Henry Mullen of Albion. Mary died after 1962 and is buried in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

   • Harriet Elizabeth Prentice, b. 17 Feb 1904, Kendallville, Noble, IN. She m. Dale M. Eshelman of Kendallville. She also m., 1st or 2nd, Lewis M. Dolan. She was living in May 1984 and at that time the wife of Dale Eshelman..

   • George Russell "Hork" Prentice, b. 18 Feb 1906, Kendallville, Noble, IN. His obituary, provided by Hilda King's E-mail of 12 Oct 1999, indicates he died of a heart attack in May 1984, at which time he had been living on Eisenhower Dr., Sturgis. After cremation, he was buried in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. George attended Kendallville High School and Purdue University where he played football. He was a salesman for Flint and Walling, the owner of the Sturgis Recreation Center, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.

     He m. Hutoka Plank on 12 Mar 1930 in Ft. Wayne, IN (in the birth record of her daugher, Judith, she is identified as Dyantha H. Plank). She was b. 2 Oct 1907, Wolcottville, dau. of Frank E. Plank and Alma Harr. She d. the Thursday preceding 10 Dec 1987 and is also buried at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. Children:

     • Judith Kay Prentice, b. 23 Nov 1940, Noble Co., IN. She m. Jerry Randall of Sturgis where she was living in Dec 1987. Children:
       • John Randall. Living in 1984.
       • Todd Randall. Living in 1984.

   • Franklin W. "Tack" Prentice, b. 7 Apr 1908, Kendallville, Noble Co., IN and d. 26 Jan 1970. He m. Mary Mitchell on 12 Mar 1936 in Noble County (per Noble Co. marriage record).

Also shown in the 1880 Noble County census is Charles Prentice of Noble County whose relationship to Russel, if any, is not known.
