Frances Freeman PRENTICE Age 95, went home to be with her heavenly Father on February 22, 2010. Frances was born November 24, 1915 to Carl and Nellie Freeman. After her mother passed away when she was four years old, Frances was raised by her father Carl and Margaret Freeman.

Frances became a waitress when she was young and enjoyed this job late into her life. In the 1940's, while she was living in Seattle, she met and married Robert L. Prentice. Together Frances and Bob had two wonderful sons, Daniel and Larry. Frances lived a wonderful life in her, very memorable, "pink house" in Ballard. Her home was filled with warm memories from the early days with her young boys and the many memorable experiences she enjoyed with her three grandchildren. Plum picking in the backyard, trips to the library, and walks to The Bluff. One of her favorite annual events was the spring bloom of lilacs, which would invite all of her family over to gather the blossoms and fill their homes with the sweet scent of her beautiful flowers. Visits from her family were welcomed by the scrumptious smell of scrambled eggs with bacon, home fries, and lemon-meringue pie; all washed down with home-made "orange soda."

Frances taught us what it meant to be a good neighbor and friend; as she reached out to so many in her community. For many years, Frances and her neighborhood friends on Sunset Hill took great pride and joy in watching over each other. A strong Christian who loved and served the lord, Frances' faith has enriched all of our lives.

Frances was preceded in death by Bob Prentice, sister Jean Theiss and son Larry Prentice. She is survived in death by brother John Edward Freeman, son Daniel Freeman Prentice, and three grandchildren Aaron, Mackenzie and Tanner.

Frances has been laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Queen Anne hill in Seattle. For information regarding the Memorial Service please contact and leave a message at (206) 325-6688. Footnote from Audrey Roy: "I noticed on Daniel's marriage cert. the witness to their wedding was Thomas McDougall of Matapedia. He is the one that married Isabelle Irvine, Daniel's father. I haven't found what year Hugh died.

"In the Provincial Archives a William W. Prentice born Edinburgh, Scotland son of John Prentice and Margaret Wilson married in 1911, was listed same time as my grandparents married in 1915. So far my family and second cousins have told me that the Prentice's in NB or Que. are all related. Maybe jumping ahead, could be the brother of Hugh born in NS. and may not be related at all."

There is a town called Prentice, Wisconsin, founded by Alexander Prentice. Some information about the town is here: http://vil.prentice.wi.gov/historywalk/ , and the second or third red dot on the map has a link to a picture of a historical plaque that mentions Alexander and the founding of the Jump River Lumber Company.
