    Living with them was John Brown, b. c 1859, Whithorn, Wigtonshire, Scotland, maybe Isabella's brother, although she was b. in Northern Ireland.

2. John Brown Prentice was born 3 May 1877, Scotland per his WWI draft registration, with his parents b. in Northern Ireland. He moved to Canada sometime before 1906. It is not known if he was accompanied by his parents or any siblings. 1930, 1940 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH,Emigrated to America in 1910 and was naturalized in 1920 in Cleveland.

He m. Janet Edith Goulden 21 Sep 1904, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. She was b. c. 1878 in Canada. Dau. of James Goulden and Janet Adams per their LDS marriage record. John and Janet moved to Ohio about 1908-1911. John died in Cleveland, OH on or about 7 Dec 1966 when his obituary appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. John is buried at Acacia Memorial Park. Janet d. c. 2 Jul 1966 when her obit. appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Also buried at Acacia Memorial Park. Children (per 1920 Cleveland census and Cleveland Obituaries, Fall 2001):

  1. Janet I. Prentice, b. 2 or 5 Aug 1905, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. She m. Kenneth L. Warren on 10 Aug 1927, Erie Co., PA., son of Frank E. Warren and Effie M. Lang. Given the Gastonia residence of her sister, Mary, she may be the Janet P. Warren shown in the SSDI as b. 2 Aug 1905, obained her SS# in OH, and d. Mar 1989 in Gastonia, Gaston Co., NC.

  2. James William Prentice, b. 21 Sep 1906, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. He d. 8 Nov 1957 at his home at 1988 Nelawood Rd., Cleveland. His obituary appeared in the 9 Nov 1957 Cleveland Press. He m. Virginia Engel. Funderal services were at Chas. Melbourne & Sons, 12737 Euclid Avenue, conducted by Rev. Neal A. Perz of the Westminster and Welsh Presbyterian Church. No childen were mentioned in his obituary.

  3. Florence M. Prentice, b. c. 1912, OH. She m. Mr. Rollins. It is unclear whether she is the Florence Rollins shown in the SSDI as b. 7 Aug 1911, obtained her SS# in OH, and d. Apr 1977 in Olmsted Falls,Cuyahoga Co., OH. Mr. Rollins may be the Harry Rollins shown in the SSDI as b. 5 Dec 1910, obtained his SS# in OH, and d. 3 Feb 1989, also in Olmsted Falls, Cuyahoga Co., OH.

3. John G. Prentice, b. c. 1915, OH, and d. 8 Jul 1944 in France during WW II. He received the Distinguished Service Cross, awarded posthumously for actions during WW II. A synopsis of his award reads as follows:

    Technician Fifth Grade John G. Prentice (ASN: 35025326), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 125th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, in action against enemy forces on 8 July 1944, in France. Technician Fifth Grade Prentice's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

It is unknown whether he was married with children.

4. Mary B. Prentice, b. c. 1919, Cleveland, OH. She is the Mary B. Doyne shown in the SSDI as b. 22 Jan 1919, obtained her SS# in OH, and d. 16 Jun 2001 in Gastonia, Gaston Co., NC. Her obituary reads as follows:

    GASTONIA Mrs. Mary Brown Prentice Doyne 82, of Aster Lane, died Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Century Care of Gastonia. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she was a homemaker, the wife of the late Leonard Allen Doyne, and the daughter of the late John Brown Prentice and Janet Goulden Prentice.

    She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Jim Prentice and two sisters, Florence Rollins and Janet Warren.

    Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Doyne and wife Barbara of Gastonia, North Carolina, Jeffrey Doyne and wife Joan of Brecksville, Ohio, and Michael Doyne and wife Astrid of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Christopher Doyne of Charlotte, North Carolina, Justin Doyne of Gastonia, North Carolina, Morgan Doyne of Dubois, Wyoming, Julia Doyne of Brecksville, Ohio, Alex, Kirsten, and Max Doyne, all of Charlotte, North Carolina.

    Memorial services will be held at a later date. Family will receive friends at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, Sunday, June 24, 2001 from 3-5 p.m. to celebrate the life of Mrs. Doyne. Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, is serving the Doyne family.

She m. Leonard Allen Doyne. He is shown in the SSDI as b. 17 Dec 1919, obtained his SS# in OH, and d. Jun 1981, also in Gastonia, Gaston Co., NC. Children:

  1. Richard Doyne and wife Barbara of Gastonia, North Carolina,
  2. Jeffrey Doyne and wife Joan of Brecksville, Ohio,
  3. Michael Doyne and wife Astrid of Charlotte, North Carolina.
